“I like trains. I like their rhythm, and I like the freedom of being suspended between two places, all anxieties of purpose taken care of: for this moment I know where I am going.” – Anna Funder
Trains were my very first memory, peering out of my bedroom window onto the tracks of the Piccadilly Line in southwest London at age two. Since then, I have been fond of underground intracity trains, especially the London Underground. Look closely at this website’s favicon: can you read the text on the roundel? Check out:
- A short essay explaining the idiosyncratic reasons I am fond of the London Underground
- A very small selection (to be expanded soon!) of my London Underground photographs
I have been involved in the train simulator community for several years, most notably on the platform of openBVE, an open-source freeware train simulator built with mono. Although I have not developed my own routes or trains for the simulator yet, I have helped with the archival and release of routes, documentation, and even a bit of mapmaking on the side.
- My profile on BVE Worldwide, a forum centered around the simulator where I assisted in the documentation and release of a Central Line route
- A snapshot of my now-abandoned project of the London Tube Map showing coverage of user-developed BVE routes as of July 2012 (routes not covered by the simulator have faded station names, and I drew in additional fictional routes with Adobe Illustrator)
My interest in exploring underground trains has naturally led me to some interesting urbex expeditions, of which you can see more here.
